Today is Thursday. We probably had our best day so far. We only had a few brief spurts of showers.
We started our day early to go to Hot Water Beach. You need to go at low tide. Low tide was 7:00 am. Hot water beach is an area with hot springs under the sand. You dig down about a foot and the HOT water seeps up. You dig a little pool to sit in. The water is about 120 degrees. The air temperature was about 50 degrees, but it was quite amazing.
Later in the morning we drove around the Coromandel peninsula. Stopped at several beaches, a waterfall, a Kauri forest, and most important of all - Stewart and his pigs. This is an old farmer with about 30 pigs that roam around freely. They come up to your car expecting food. It was quite unusual.
At 2:30 pm we headed to Cathedral Cove. This is a very picturesque area. You hike about 45 minutes to get there. They filmed the opening scene from Prince Caspian-Narnia here.
